Kodak Film in Canada and Treck Hall

Kodak Film in Canada: The Treck Hall Story

A Longstanding Connection to Canada’s Photographic Industry

For generations, Kodak film has been at the heart of photography in Canada. From family snapshots to professional photography, Kodak helped define how Canadians captured the world around them.

At Treck Hall, our connection to Kodak and the Canadian photographic industry runs deep.

Our Roots: Hall Photographic – 1957

The Treck Hall story begins with Hall Photographic, founded in 1957. From the beginning, the company was closely connected to the professional and retail photography market in Canada, supplying photographic products and supporting retailers across the country.

Over the decades, Hall Photographic became a trusted supplier within the Canadian photo industry, building long-standing relationships with camera stores, labs, and professional photographers.

The Kodak Retail Heritage

At the same time, Eastman Kodak operated a network of Kodak retail stores across Canada during the mid-20th century. These stores played a major role in introducing generations of Canadians to photography, film, and photo processing.

As the industry evolved, these Kodak retail operations eventually transitioned into a company known as Treck Photographic.

In fact, the name TREC comes from Technical Retail Eastman Companies — a reflection of those Kodak retail roots.

The Formation of Treck Hall

In the late 1980s, Hall Photographic and Treck Photographic merged, bringing together two companies with deep connections to Kodak and the Canadian photographic market.

The combined company — now known as Treck Hall — became one of the key suppliers serving professional photographers and photo retailers across Canada.

Through decades of change in the photography industry, Treck Hall continued to support retailers, labs, and imaging professionals nationwide.

Supporting the Film Photography Resurgence

While the digital revolution transformed photography in the early 2000s, film never completely disappeared. In recent years, film photography has experienced a remarkable resurgence, with new generations of photographers discovering the unique look and experience of shooting film.

Today, Treck Hall is proud to once again be a major Canadian supplier of Kodak film, supporting retailers and photo labs across the country.
